History and Layout

Sea-Tac was built by the Port of Seattle in 1944. The first scheduled commercial flights were Northwest and Trans-Canada in 1947.

Today, Seattle Tacoma International Airport boasts 80 gates on four concourses and has two satellite buildings. The main terminal building, also called Central Terminal, is laid out in an “X” shape, each concourse forming a different arm where currency exchange, dining and shopping happens as well as arrivals and departures. Concourse A offers 16 gates, Concourse B 12, Concourse C boasts 13 gates, Concourse D 11, North Satellite has 10 gates but no shopping and South Satellite boasts 14 gates. Central Terminal overlooks the airport's three runways.

North and South Satellite are linked to the four concourses via Central Terminal by a 3-line automated people mover system. This Satellite Transit System moves passengers efficiently from one concourse to the other. International flights are currently handled at South Satellite Terminal.
